I am of french Caribbean origin (Saint Martin), living in the United States for the past 8 years.
My son and french movement were my 2 reasons for starting this journey:
I started my journey of homemade (DYI) skincare and hair care in 2016, after having my son. As many new parents can relate, after the birth of my son I started looking more in deeps in the composition of everything my family uses and consumes.
However, I drew very fond of making my on skincare and hair care routine using organic primary ingredient based on my skin type such as floral water, essence oils, plant based powders, vegetable oils and more.
The inspiration truly came from following a few French blogeurs that shared their knowledge on the benefits and use of organic primary ingredient. In France, the homemade/DYI skincare trend is quite large and a lot of information can be found on how to treat individual skin and hair needs by way of using organic primary mostly plant based ingredient.
First challenges on this journey:
After having been drown and filled with eagerness to start my own journey, I was faced with a challenge very quickly. That challenge was to find these organicprimary ingredient in small quantity (not Wholesale) in the United States. It was very difficult or almost impossible to find TRUSTED organic primary ingredient here in the US, and I stress on the trusted because, yes you could find a few but they just didn’t seem quite authentic and organic.
Nevertheless, I had a friend in France ship me a few product to get me started and see if this is something that would truly work for me. Needless to say that was the start of a enjoyable and successful journey to homemade/DYI skincare and hair care routines.
Bringing this knowledge to the US readers:
By way of this blog, I would like to share with you some very simple ways to get YOU started on a homemade/DYI skincare and hair care routine. I noticed very early in my search that surprisingly this trend has not quite made it to the US or at least not the decomposed intricate knowledge of each ingredient and the knowledge on how to build the best product for your skin type and hair type. Sure their are emerging small brand selling extremely expensive organic skincare and hair care product, however you still don’t know what the product is composed of and if it is truly made for your skin and hair type. I hope I can shed some light and small amount of knowledge based on my experience with you on how you could start this journey as well.
Budget friendly:
Furthermore, as a new mom I had to reevaluate by budget on skincare and hair care all while trying to provide use organic product. Surprisingly enough, the homemade/DYI skincare and hair care become more affordable. When I say affordable I mean in comparison to all the small organic brand selling their product at an insanely expensive price and if you were use to name brand skin care and hair care. However, if you use drugstore skincare and hair care this may not quite seem as a budget friendly to you.
Full Disclosure:
I do want to emphasis that I am NOT a dermatologist or a doctor nor do I hold any certificate, degree, nor professional experience on skincare and hair care. What I share on this blog is purely personnel experience and knowledge. As you start this journey, please test every ingredient on a part of your skin days in advance before start or introducing new ingredient to your skincare or hair care.
